Ministry of Culture of Moldova was created on the . . .

 

27th of May, 1953 through the Decision nr. 460 from 27 May 1953  of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic Soviet of  Ministers - "On Confirmation of the structure and staff of the Ministry of Culture of Moldavian SSR", in accordance with the decisions of  the Soviet Ministers of the USSR nr.1011 from 11 April 1953.

 

The newly established ministry included all the enterprises, organizations, establishments, educational institutions, research and planning organizations, auxiliary households, residential buildings, garages, warehouses and other buildings under the management of the former state organizations: Department of Publishing and Printing Industry under the Soviet of Ministers of the MSSR; Department for institutions of cultural illumination  under the Soviet of Ministers of the MSSR; Committee for Radio-information under the Soviet of Ministers of the MSSR; Moldovan Republican Directorate for labor reserves. 

 

The Ministry had in its subordination all the profile institutions from the country, and managed the training of specialists from related institutions. In the period 1953-1964 the Ministry patronized cinema, audiovisual, books trade, photography art. 

 

After the collapse of the USSR, the Ministry activated under different names and had new domains of competence: 1990-1994 - Ministry of Culture and Cults of the Republic of Moldova, 2005-2009 - Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

 

Until 1963, the Ministry of Culture activated in the current Supreme Court’s building, located at the crossroad of Mihail Kogalniceanu and Metropolitan Gavriil Banulescu Bodoni Streets. Since 1963, the Ministry of Culture is situated in the Government building (National Square 1, Chisinau, 2033).
