Minister of Culture Monica Babuc participated at the meeting of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which took place on October 5-6, 2016, in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan.
At the meeting, there were attended the official delegations from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan. According to the agenda there were discussed a number of topics related to the CIS cultural activity, as well as the main activities of the CIS countries in the culture field in 2016-2020 years, cultural activities developed with the occasion of celebrating 25th anniversary of the CIS founding, organization of the CSI International exhibition "ART EXPO" at Yerevan in 2018, the designation of 2018 as the year of culture in the CIS.
At the meeting, Monica Babuc said that the Republic of Moldova has fulfilled 5 from those 6 actions foreseen in 2016, from Action Plan in the culture field for 2016-2020 years, including the International Music Festival "Mărțisor", the International Opera and Ballet Festival "Maria Bieșu", the International Festival of young instrumentalists "Eugen Coca", the International Festival "Piano Nights", the International Festival "Ethno Jazz".
In the same time, Minister of Culture noted that in the context of celebrating the 25th anniversary of the CIS founding, the Ministry realized the following actions: the International Music Festival "Mărțisor", which received a substantial support worth over 500 thousand lei from the Interstate Humanitarian Fund of the CIS Member States, the International Children Book Fair organized by the National Library for Children "Ion Creangă", the International Biennale of Theatre "Eugene Ionesco" and the International Festival of Opera and Ballet "Maria Bieșu".
Minister of Culture sustained the proposals of the CIS Executive Committee in which the Republic of Belarus has been appointed as chairman of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of the Member States of the CIS for the next three years, it being noted the progresses and significant reforms of this country, such as the approval and promulgation of the Culture Code, the activity of the historical-cultural national Museum Nesvij, the National Library, the restoration of the Theatre of Opera etc.
Also, at the meeting it was decided on awarding the Diploma of the Council for Cultural Cooperation of the CIS member States to the Director of State Russian Drama Theatre "A.P.Cehov" from Chișinău, Constantin Haret and diploma being handed to the Minister of Culture Monica Babuc to be transmitted to the Director of the Theatre.
The next meeting of the Council will take place in August 2017, in Issyk-Kul city from Kyrgyzstan.
